籃網首戰，主力射手波格丹諾維奇缺席，但林書豪開賽展現火熱手感，雖然上半場一度快攻，卻遭籃框蓋火鍋，被美國媒體瘋傳。但暑假表示苦練跳投，並且修正投籃機制的林書豪，開賽展現成果，他前三次三分外線出手都進，只上場十七分鐘，就轟下廿一分。
過去曾在尼克隊和林書豪合作的籃網總教練亞特金森，對於他的投籃進步感到驚艷，他說：「我對他相信自己接球跳投的能力感到高興，他真的能投，我們也希望他能投。」
不過從過去幾年擔任板凳暴徒，到終於重回先發，林書豪並沒有對於自己表現而自滿，「這場最大收穫，是我沒有因為好表現而得意忘形，上季我在熱身賽同樣打的很好，但開季卻宛如迷失方向。我不在意數據上的表現，最重要的是我很有自信，這比什麼都重要。」
尤其是雖然手感很好，但林書豪對於整體內容認為仍有修正空間，尤其是和球隊主力中鋒洛培茲的搭配，兩人擋切默契還有很大進步空間。「雖然這一場我們手感很順，不太需要擋切也能贏，但球季間這一定是努力重點，我們要打出無私的籃球。」
