據南韓民意調查機構Realmeter所作民調顯示，在檢方調查朴槿惠閨密崔順實是否干政，並利用兩人關係中飽私囊的同時，朴槿惠的支持度已跌落至歷來最低的17.5%。
案發後，在野黨步步為營，自我克制不要求朴槿惠下台，也未提彈劾。
若朴槿惠辭職，依法須在60天內舉行選舉。分析認為，在野黨沒這麼快就準備好要在風險極高的選戰中跟新世界黨開摃。如果重選總統，當選人將可做滿5年任期。
