道奇本場先發Rich Hill雖然在首局接連三振了2、3棒，狀態感覺狀態相當不錯，不過在第2局遇到這個系列賽始終無法解決的Daniel Murphy，又被擊出左外野方向的安打，Murphy隨後又盜上二壘攻佔得點圈，一出局後，Danny Espinosa適時敲出安打送回壘上跑者，國民本場比賽率先開張，以1：0在主場取得領先。
3局下，國民開路先鋒Trea Turner又在無人出局就敲出安打上壘，接著又積極盜上二壘，雖然Hill隨後順利解決下兩棒的打者，不過在遇到Murphy打擊時，決定故意四壞保送他，來抓下一棒的Anthony Rendon，而教練團也在此時，決定提前把Hill換下場，推出Joe Blanton上場中繼，他也順利的解決掉Rendon，化解掉這個半局的危機。
而國民王牌Scherze本場比賽目前為止表現穩定，主投4局，沒有被擊出任何安打，僅讓對手靠著1個保送站上壘包，改善了系列首戰一開始就開砲轟，讓球隊處於落後的情況，是國民目前能保持領先的關鍵。
